The word fearless aptly describes actress Kangana Ranaut. Be it her personal relationships or commenting on social or political issues, Ranaut has never shied away from speaking her mind. In a conversation in Mumbai yesterday, the Queen (2014) actress found herself discussing life, spirituality and liberalism with spiritual guru Jaggi Vasudev, better known as Sadhguru.

Ranaut spoke about the mob lynching incidents in the country under the pretext of saving cows.

The actress, who will be seen in the period film Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, narrated an anecdote from the film's shooting.

“It is very conflicting. I'm working on a martyr's biopic where there is a scene where the protagonist [Laxmibai] saves a calf. My crew had a huge discussion over this. We can’t save a calf. It has to be a lamb because we don’t want to look like cow savers,” said Ranaut.

The actress then attacked the liberal class and seemed to suggest that there is a prejudice against those who want to save cows. “My point is  when such prejudices strike, as a person you feel very protective of who you are, what your values are, you want to save all the animals, why just cow, the prejudice is really agonising,” said the actress.

Ranaut vaguely questioned the motive of the liberals.

“Mob lynching takes place and you look like an idiot and then you jump to the other side, which has always been criticising and never wanting  to protect cows. The literal meaning of liberals is people who have acceptance for people, opinions, thoughts. They will not take you into their group unless you hate the same people as they do,” said Ranaut.

Ranaut questioned the liberals on what they had to offer to change things for the better. “If this is for the betterment of the country you don’t mind hating the BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party) but what I don’t get is what is their agenda and plan of action for bringing this country out of the pit? A rape takes place in Kashmir, and they [liberals] say Hindustan raped our daughter. To be pointing fingers at each other when the country is so vulnerable and trying to break a civil war, is that what liberals do?" she questioned.

“The most sensible thing to do is be a sceptic, but a sceptic is nothing but a space cadet. He doesn’t know where he is going. Right now we need a definite direction to go to. We cannot be stuck into the unfortunate loop of ‘to be or not to be’. So what to do?” she asked.

Later, during a brief media interaction, Ranaut added, "You feel conflicted. You want to save the animals, but when the lynching happens, you feel heartbroken at what’s going on. You feel that is wrong."
