The filmmaker is likely to appoint a director in his stead. Shooting for the second season is scheduled to begin in September.

Season 1 of Sacred Games was received well, especially by critics. Fans are already waiting with bated breath for season 2, due next year.
Shooting for the second season will commence in September, but there is one major change in personnel. Vikramaditya Motwane, one of the two directors of the show's first season, will not be directing this time.
A reliable source from the Sacred Games team said, “Vikramaditya will not be directing season 2. He will continue to remain the 'showrunner'. But he is most likely to appoint a director. The shooting for season 2 will commence by September-end,”
While Motwane will not wear the director’s hat this time, Anurag Kashyap, the other director of season 1, will continue to do so.
Sacred Games features two stories running in parallel. The present-day story features inspector Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) while the past story is that of gangster Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). Motwane had directed the story of Sartaj Singh in the first season while Kashyap helmed the story of Gaitonde.
