After a dry spell, actor Emraan Hashmi has been lining a number of interesting projects one after another. He has begun shooting for his home production, Cheat India (2019) in Lucknow. The film showcases the malpractices in the Indian education system. The actor has also been cast as the lead in the Netflix series, Bard of Blood, to be produced by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment.

Now comes word that Hashmi will play civil engineer-turned-detective Suryakant Bhande Patil in the upcoming film, Father’s Day. The film will be based on Patil's biography, Drishyam Adrishyam, written by Praful Shah, and is an emotional drama revolving around a father and a son.

A Pune native, Patil's three-year-old son was kidnapped by a servant and when the police could not locate the kidnappers, Patil took on the responsibility of finding him himself. After seven months, he managed to locate the kidnappers but it was too late as his son was killed.

In 1999, Patil set up an agency called Spy Sanket and has dedicated his life to reunite parents with their children. He has so far helped the police solve 120 child kidnapping cases for free. His agency is named after his late son, Sanket.

Father's Day will be helmed by first-time director Shantanu Baagchi who comes from the advertising background. The screenplay and dialogues are written by Ritesh Shah.

Produced by Emraan Hashmi Films and Mataram Films, the release date of Father's Day has not been announced yet.
