Actress Sohini Sarkar will be seen as the one of the protagonists in Birsa Dasgupta’s upcoming film Crisscross. The film also stars Nusrat Jahan, Jaya Ahsan, Priyanka Sarkar and Mimi Chakraborty.
Crisscross narrates an urban story of five women and highlights one day from their lives. Sohini plays a housewife Rupa, who is caught in a loveless marriage. Her husband doesn’t care to sexually satisfy her and abuses her whenever he gets the opportunity. At the same time, her in-laws pressurize and humiliate her for not having a baby, not taking in consideration her husband’s inabilities.
Rupa’s brother-in-law takes advantage of her helplessness and tries to force himself on her. “I play Rupali (Rupa), a troubled housewife who is trying to find love among her family members and dreams of being an independent woman. But the second half of the film comes with a major twist to the character,” the actress told a leading daily.
“In Shob Bhooturey (2017), my last film with Birsa, I had to put on a grumpy face all the time. In Crisscross I am crying all the time. There is no scene for smiling or laughing and I am quite angry with him for this reason,” joked the actress.
Sohini also stated that Dasgupta doesn’t mind being hard on the sets to get the finest performances from the actors and also insists on getting involved in the character all the time. Therefore, Sohini reportedly kept her phone switched off throughout the schedule to feel the intensity of the character.
Crisscross is slated to be released on 10 August.
