Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam 2 has run into trouble a week before the film is supposed to be released.

Pyramid Saimira Productions, a multinational entertainment company, filed a plea against the film's actor-director-producer Haasan with the Madras high court, urging it to order a stay on the film's release.

The company has claimed that the actor owes it Rs7.75 crore which will not be recovered if Vishwaroopam 2 is released. Further, according to the company's director PS Swaminathan, Pyramid Saimira Productions had entered into a memorandum of understanding with Rajkamal Films International, in which Haasan is a partner, in the year 2008 to co-produce film Marmayogi at a cost of Rs100 crore.

The deal stated that Haasan would act in and direct the film and also write its story, screenplay and dialogues. Pyramid Saimira Productions claims that it paid the actor a sum of Rs6.9 crore for the film's production and Rs4 crore as Haasan's renumeration.

"However, the actor, instead of using the funds to make the movie, utilised it to make another movie called Unnaipol Oruvan (2009). A case pertaining to this dispute has already been filed and is pending in court. Under these circumstances, the actor has now produced a film called Vishwaroopam 2 and releasing it on 10 August," the petitioner stated.

In 2011, the company had filed a civil suit for recovery of the production costs and requested the court to order a restraint on the release of Unnaipol Oruvan. However, the court allowed the movie to be released on furnishing of a bank guarantee for 50% of the suit claim. It filed another civil suit in 2016 for the recovery of the remuneration paid to Haasan, that came up to a total of Rs5.44 crore with interest. Now, the claim amount has increased to Rs7.75 crore.

Vishwaroopam 2, scheduled to hit the screens on 10 August, also stars Rahul Bose, Shekhar Kapur, Andrea Jeremiah and Anant Mahadevan.
