Stunned by the damage the ongoing monsoon has caused in the neighbouring state of Kerala, Tamil and Telugu film industries have rallied to come to the aid of those affected by the floods.

The South Indian Artistes Association, also known as the Nadigar Sangam, has announced a financial aid of Rs5 lakh for now. More allowance is expected to follow, as per the sources.

Actors Suriya and Karthi, top stars in the Tamil film industry, have donated a sum of Rs25 lakh to the Distress Relief Fund, being raised by the chief minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan.

Actor Kamal Haasan, who hosts the Tamil reality show Bigg Boss, also donated a sum of Rs25 lakh to the fund. Vijay TV, the channel that airs Bigg Boss, also made a donation of Rs25 lakh.

Telugu star Allu Arjun, too, has promised to donate a sum of Rs25 lakh for the relief operations in Kerala. "People of Kerala will always occupy a special place in my heart for the unmatchable love and affection they shower. Their love and the loss is unmatchable. But still I take the honour to do my bit. I hereby pledge to donate [Rs]25,00,000 for the #KeralaFloodRelief. Love 'M'Allu  Arjun," he wrote on Twitter.

Apart from these donations, the fan clubs of actors Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Ajith and Suriya are working towards sending relief material to the affected coastal areas.
