Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj's next comedy will see Dangal (2016) actress Sanaya Malhotra and television actress Radhika Madan team up as warring sisters. The project, currently titled Chhuriyaan (knives), is a comedy-drama revolving around two constantly battling sisters.

The filmmaker, who is known for his reportoire of Shakespearean dramas like Maqbool (2004), Omkara (2006) and Haider (2014), is looking to turn a new leaf by directing a lighter comedy. Speaking to tabloid Mumbai Mirror, Bhardwaj said, "While there’s no gender for knife in English, it’s called ‘chhura’ and ‘chhuri’ in Hindustani. Since they are girls, we liked Chhuriyaan."

The two actresses are currently prepping for the role in a village in Rajasthan, In the same report, the director revealed, "The film is divided into two parts — the girls before their marriage and how their lives change after they tie the knot. Usually actors give directors a commitment, but when push comes to shove they get cold feet. But that doesn’t happen with newcomers who are ready for anything. I am looking forward to directing Sanya and Radhika because I can mould them according to my will, change their look and create something fresh."

Bhardwaj was reportedly working on an adaptation of authors S Hussain Zaidi and Jane Borges's Mafia Queens of Mumbai with Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan, but had to put it on the backburner after Khan was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour.

Chhuriyaan is expected to go on the floors later this month.
