After the surprising box office successes of 3 Idiots (2009), PK (2014), Dangal (2016) and Secret Superstar (2017) in China, Aamir Khan's next film, Thugs of Hindoston, will have a same day release in both India and China in a bid to curb piracy.

Produced by Yash Raj Films (YRF), Thugs of Hindostan is due to be released on 7 November 2018.

Mid-Day, a tabloid, reported that the actor wants to promote the period film with a tour in China, and plans to release a new song there as well.

Buoyed by the success of Khan's films, other Hindi films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) and Hindi Medium (2017) have opened to bumper business in the Middle Kingdom.

Khan, who is fondly known as 'Uncle Aamir' in the country, has become a popular celebrity among the Chinese youth and his films are frequently pirated there.

According to the financial website, moneycontrol.com, Khan's 2009 film 3 Idiots was one of the most downloaded films between Chinese college-goers.

Foreign films, with unauthorised Chinese subtitles, can be found on piracy websites like kuaibo.com, yyets.com and kankan.com. China only allows around 34 foreign films to be released in the country in a year. Further, these films are not allowed to hit the screens during Chinese holidays, in order to give precedence to local fare. These factors contribute to the rise of piracy amongst youngsters.

Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, Thugs of Hindoston also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
