Sanju teaser: Ranbir Kapoor perfectly embodies the adventure that is Sanjay Dutt's life

The teasers of Rajkumar Hirani films always create intrigue [remember Aamir Khan's bare-bodied appearance in PK (2014)?] and the Sanju teaser is no different.

While a lot of Sanjay Dutt's life is in the public domain, Hirani still manages to create excitement by introducing different facets of the star at various stages of his life.

The makeup and styling team have made sure that Ranbir Kapoor looks every bit like the star he is playing, but it is really Kapoor who embodies Sanjay Dutt perfectly.  

There is no doubt Kapoor has lived and breathed Dutt's character — he walks and talks just like Sanju baba.

In portraying a famous star like Dutt, Kapoor walks a very tricky path. Going even a little overboard would make him look like a caricature. Fortunately, he brings a lot of Ranbir Kapoor — the actor — to the character, making it his own.

And the snappy dialogues of Kapoor's character bear the quintessential Hirani stamp!

The teaser begins with Dutt getting out of Tihar jail, moves on to his drug addiction at 22, his body-building stage, his privileged life as a star and his darkest jail-term phases.

While Dutt's life, with all the ups and downs, is quite intense, Hirani's teaser is light and fun. The director chooses to look at Dutt's life as one big adventure. The last few seconds, which offer a glimpse into the actual film, makes things even more interesting.

Hirani's comedic and good-spirited treatment of an emotionally dense real-life story might just prove to be a masterstroke.

So far, Sanju looks like a roller-coaster ride.
