The first schedule of Abhishek Varman's period ensemble began on the same day its title was announced.

A couple of hours after the title and cast of Karan Johar's next ensemble production, Kalank, were announced, the film's first shooting schedule began. Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixit Nene and Alia Bhatt kicked off the schedule and shared pictures from their first day on the set.
Dhawan was among the first to put up a picture, of producers Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala.
While Dhawan's post does not reveal much, the picture does offer an insight into the massive set production involved. The film, directed by Abhishek Varman, is set in the 1940s era, and the huge arches and columns in the background seem to belong to those of a palatial house.
The first poster of the film also carried the picture of a ruined palace in the background, which makes the connection apparent.
Alia Bhatt took to Twitter to share another picture from the sets as well. The actress shared a picture of her Student Of The Year (2012) producer, Karan Johar, alongside director David Dhawan, who was visiting on the first day.
The men in RED and BLACK :) Day 1 of #Kalank calls for a visit to set from the 3 most important people! What a way to begin the film!! @karanjohar @NGEMovies #DavidDhawan ♥ï¸@Varun_dvn pic.twitter.com/U3iMTs912I— Alia Bhatt (@aliaa08) April 18, 2018
Another member of the cast who was present on the first day of the shoot was Madhuri Dixit Nene. The actress, who stepped in for the late Sridevi in the film, arrived on the sets for a look test after finishing the shoot for Indra Kumar's upcoming comedy, Total Dhamaal. While Total Dhamaal will see her partnering her Beta (1992) co-star, Anil Kapoor, Kalank will see her reunite with Sanjay Dutt.
Just finished my shoot with @AnilKapoor and #indrakumar on the sets of #TotalDhamaal and was phenomenal as usual. Now arrived at the sets of #Kalank with @karanjohar for the look test. The sets are breathtaking. Can’t wait for you to see both films!!— Madhuri Dixit-Nene (@MadhuriDixit) April 18, 2018
Incidentally, none of the artistes shared pictures of themselves on set. Considering that it is a period film, perhaps, they were hiding the looks. Kalank also stars Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur. The film is set to be released on 19 April next year.
