Members of the Indian film industry continue to voice their anger on the dastardly events.
Kathua, Unnao rape case: Arjun Kapoor, Kajol, Preity Zinta, Kamal Haasan want answers, justice
Mumbai - 14 Apr 2018 12:46 IST
Prime minister Narendra Modi broke his silence on the Unnao and Kathua rape cases on Friday (13 April) and calling them "shameful". While the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), yesterday, arrested BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the accused in the Unnao rape case, the Kathua rape case has seen no further development.
Female artistes from the Hindi film industry - from actresses Swara Bhaskar, Kalki Koechlin, Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadha, Konkona Sensharma, Sai Tamhankar to filmmaker Alankrita Shrivastava - held up placecards condemning the rapists and the lack of justice for the young victim.
Since then, more members of the Indian film industry have continued to voice their anger. Arjun Kapoor, Kajol, filmmaker-turned-politician Kamal Haasan, singer-composer Vishal Dadlani, Preity Zinta, Farhan Akhtar all spoke up on behalf of the 8-year-old Ashifa.
A life is lost a childhood taken & yet everything is politically connected leading to a so called secular country getting divided on caste & religion because that digresses from the reality that our country, the silent government & its leaders still don’t respect woman or lives. https://t.co/TRNyTB8E3r— Arjun Kapoor (@arjunk26) April 12, 2018
Sickened to the core... what are we becoming as a society??? Asifa deserves quick justice. pic.twitter.com/QT9iywaGFK— Kajol (@KajolAtUN) April 13, 2018
As a Hindu-by-birth, I need to say this. The rapists & murderers of #Asifa & #Unnao, and those protecting them, DO NOT & NEVER WILL, REPRESENT HINDUISM!— VISHAL DADLANI (@VishalDadlani) April 13, 2018
Think about who you are, and how these people bring SHAME to your great religion. If you're not one of them, disown them, NOW!
Does it have 2 b ur own daughter fr u 2 understand? She could’ve been mine. I feel angry as a man, father & a citizen fr failing Asifa. I m sorry my child v didn’t make this country safe enough fr U. I’ll fight fr justice at least fr future kids like u. V mourn u & won’t forget u— Kamal Haasan (@ikamalhaasan) April 13, 2018
It’s moments like this when a clear choice must be made.— Farhan Akhtar (@FarOutAkhtar) April 13, 2018
We can come together as a people to protect the lives and rights of our women & children
We can allow people to put personal agendas above law & humanity
What kind of nation do We want to be? #Justice #Kathua #Unnao
So disturbed after seeing this image, cannot just fathom what went through the satanic minds of those who committed this unspeakable crime to this beautiful innocent life. I pray that those devils who did this should be punished in the quickest & harshest way possible. ð #Asifa pic.twitter.com/MBC7jr0OEt— Aftab Shivdasani (@AftabShivdasani) April 13, 2018
Until severe punishment, according to brutality of crime, unbailable sentencing, fast track special courts only for rape/murder.no legal loopholes, political will, law implemented. This horror will not cease.not guilty until proven.and when proven, make them Pay!— Raveena Tandon (@TandonRaveena) April 13, 2018
Meanwhile, filmmaker Hansal Mehta changed his Twitter profile to Ashifa's photo and put up a change.org petition, asking his followers to sign it.
