David Dhawan wishes to work with Rajkummar Rao, says Varun Dhawan

The actor shared that his father liked Rajkummar Rao's performance in Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017).

Actor Varun Dhawan says his father, filmmaker David Dhawan is keen on working with Rajkummar Rao after watching his performance in Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017).

"I can remember the conversation with dad, after watching Bareilly Ki Barfi that we loved watching, Dad (David Dhawan) said, 'Yaar, this Rajkummar is such a brilliant actor, I feel like making a film with him!' and I also personally feel that they are doing something right to get that love and appreciation from audience," Varun said.

Rajkummar Rao: Actor is supposed to play characters, not show six-packs every time

Varun was speaking at the Jagran Cinema Summit - Future of Cinema on Friday, 15 September, evening. In conversation with film critic Mayank Shekhar he was asked about his opinion on new-age stardom.

"In a year when much-anticipated films are not doing well at the box office, actors like Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao, Kriti Sanon, Bhumi are making differences. So far, Bhumi has acted in three films — Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015), Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017), Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017) and all of them are hits," Varun said.

Judwaa 2 song: Varun Dhawan's 'Oonchi Hai Building' still stuck in Salman's time warp

Admitting that he is popular on social media, the Main Tera Hero actor commented on the 'hypocrisy' of the audience, saying, "There is a little hypocrisy there. When I meet people at the public events or put out trailer or videos on social media, I get a response from thousands of people. Are they all going to the theatre? Does the love I get from social media gets translated at the box office? Not all the time. But a real star is who gets that at the theatre and has a steady fan-follower for years, like Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan," he added.

Varun's next Judwaa 2, directed by David Dhawan, will be released on 29 September.
