The first weekend box-office collection of the Saif Ali Khan-starrer Chef has been disastrous. Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, the film has made only Rs3.35 crore in the first three days, as per numbers shared by

Chef opened to a dismal Rs85 lakh on Friday, 6 October. The film showed some growth on the weekend, earning Rs1.15 crore on Saturday and Rs1.35 crore on Sunday, but with the opening itself being so weak this growth was not enough.

Reportedly made at a budget of about Rs30 crore, Chef is now left staring at a big loss. The dismal weekend numbers belie expections of a fruitful week.

On the other hand, David Dhawan’s Judwaa 2, which was released on 29 September, has had a good run on the second weekend as well, making Rs17.25 crore. The film had bagged an impressive Rs95.25 crore in its first week and now the grand total stands at about Rs112.50 crore nett.

The film, starring Varun Dhawan, is a remake of David Dhawan’s own Judwaa (1997). Judwaa 2 was reportedly made at a budget of Rs80 crore. With Rs112.50 crore already in the kitty from the Indian box office, the film is likely to become one of the few big-budget hits of 2017.
