Jia Aur Jia song: Kalki Koechlin, Richa Chadda look out of place in this wacky dance number

Sung by Shivangi Bhayana and composed by Sachin Gupta, the song is over-the-top and ordinary in its style.

Kalki Koechlin is not someone people associate with dance numbers, but the actress is trying to prove the popular opinion wrong. The latest song from Howard Rosemeyer's Jia Aur Jia has the actress putting on her dancing shoes, with Richa Chadda in company.

The song, 'Naach Basanti', is set on a beach party that the two Jias (Chadda and Koechlin) come across during their travel across Sweden. While one Jia (Chadda) remains hesitant in joining the party, another (Koechlin) jumps in to gyrate on a very Indian dance number.

While Koechlin tries to fit in to the profile of the extrovert, audacious girl, the garish song seems like the wrong place to attempt it. Slowly, Chadda joins the party, but can't seem to get over the demons of her past.

Sung by Shivangi Bhayana and composed by Sachin Gupta, the song is over-the-top and ordinary in its style. The lyrics by Mudassar Aziz play on the international love for Sholay, and its heroine, Basanti. While the composition remains fairly mediocre, the tacky lyrics do not help in raising the quality of the song either.

Jia Aur Jia is directed by Howard Rosemeyer, and stars Kalki Koechlin, Richa Chadda, and is set to be released on 27 October.
