Box office: Golmaal Again sees over 60% drop in collections on second Monday

It’s premature to say that the Golmaal Again juggernaut has been halted, but, the Rohit Shetty comic caper has perhaps hit its first brake, with its second Monday collection dropping by over 60%, as reported by BoxOfficeInda.com. Golmaal Again had made Rs13.25 crore nett on Sunday (29 October) before the collection on Monday dropped to Rs4crore nett.
Since the film released (20 October), Golmaal Again has done well at the box office, bagging Rs87.10 crore nett in it opening weekend, which reached up to Rs135.93 crore nett in the first week. It’s four-day collection of the second week was Rs34.75 crore nett. The film has so far made Rs170.68 crore nett in its domestic business.
The drop was expected and Golmaal Again will perhaps now have to grind it out to reach the Rs200-crore nett mark. Golmaal Again has released across 3,500 screens in India and it is made at an estimated budget of Rs130 crore. With no studio involved, Golmaal Again was on the front foot having gained around Rs70 crore nett through satellite (Rs52.5 crore), digital (to Amazon for Rs10 crore) and music (T-series, Rs8 crore) rights, respectively, as revealed by trade sources.
The Diwali day release Secret Superstar, too, saw over a 65% drop on its second Monday. The film, produced by Aamir Khan and starring Zaira Wasim, bagged Rs1.25 crore nett. The film had made Rs4 crore nett on Sunday (29 October). Secret Superstar was released in 1,600 screens in India, and it is made at an estimated budget of Rs24 crore (excluding Khan’s fees). Secret Superstar has made a total of Rs51.96 crore so far.
In this week, the opening of the Ittefaq remake and Hollywood superhero silm Thor: Ragnarok will decide the future of Golmaal Again and Secret Superstar at the box office.
