Just when we thought the debate over nepotism in the Hindi film industry was dying down, Karan Johar has taken a dig against the 'n' word during an event for his upcoming production, Ittefaq.

During the course of the interaction, Johar said, “At the two ends of our panels we have two non-nepotistic people (Shah Rukh Khan and Sidharth Malhotra) and the remaining ones (Sonakshi Sinha, Johar, Juno Chopra and Abhay Chopra) are the brand ambassadors of nepotism.”

He tried to prove that the industry gives opportunities to those who don’t come from a filmi family too. “Sidharth Malhotra and Shah Rukh Khan do not represent nepotism, which also speaks volumes of how both can work equally, efficiently and correctly. Right or not?” he asked.

The issue of nepotism came to the limelight earlier this year when Kangana Ranaut accused Johar, on the latter’s TV show, of being the 'flag-bearer of nepotism'. This was followed by reactions and counter-reactions from Saif Ali Khan, Varun Dhawan, Manoj Bajpayee, among others.

Coming to Ittefaq, Johar was asked if the film would be remade in Telugu. “Well, there are negotiations going on but nothing is confirmed on Telugu remake of Ittefaq,” he replied.

Directed by Abhay Chopra, Ittefaq is all set to be released on 3 November.
