Aishwarya, Abhishek rush to her mother's aid as building catches fire

The 13th floor of the residential building in Bandra, where Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's mother still lives, caught fire on Tuesday, 24 October.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan rushed to the aid of Vrinda Rai, Aishwarya's mother, after the 13th floor of her residential building in Bandra caught fire on Tuesday, 24 Ocotber.

News agency PTI quoted a senior fire brigade official that the fire started on the 13th floor of the building, La Mer.

The immediate response by the fire brigade was crucial to douse the fire. No injuries were reported as the fire was brought under control almost immediately.

Until her marriage, Aishwarya stayed in one of the apartments in the building, where her mother continues to live. The building is also known to have been the residence of Sachin Tendulkar.

The daily, Hindustan Times, quoted a fire brigade official saying, "Our fire control room received a call at 12:50 pm regarding the fire that broke out on the 13th floor of La Mer building located in Bandra West."

Mumbai's chief fire officer PS Rahangdale was also quoted as saying, "There was a timely response from the fire brigade team. However, the fire fighting systems in the apartment were not in place. The blaze was doused before it could spread."

In a quote to PTI, Aishwarya's spokesperson said, "Aishwarya is grateful and overwhelmed by the concern shown by her well-wishers and thanks them."
