Producer Aditya Chopra, the whole and sole of Yash Raj Films, has been directed to pay Rs15,000 as fine for not including the ‘Jabra Fan’ song in Fan (2016), which had Shah Rukh Khan performing a double role.

As per a report in a daily TheTimes of India, the Aurangabad circuit bench of the Maharashtra State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission passed the order after a petition was filed by Afreen Fatima Zaidi, a teacher, against the producer for not including the song in the film despite playing it widely in the trailers.

The bench comprising SM Shembole and KB Gawali, agreed that this amounted to “deficiency in service and unfair trade practice”. Hence, they asked Chopra to pay Rs10,000 towards mental harassment and Rs5,000 as the cost of the complaint.

The petitioner had approached the district consumer forum last year, but her plea was rejected in April 2016 as the forum felt it did not come under the purview of the Consumer Protection Act. Her lawyer husband Zeeshan Zaidi then took the matter to the state commission.

While filing the petition, the complainant sought Rs60,550 as compensation, which included Rs25,000 for mental harassment, Rs30,000 for legal expenses and Rs3,550 for expenditure on tickets, snacks and transport for watching the film.
