Kerala film festival to hold workshop for woman filmmakers, technicians

The 22nd edition of the IFFK will be held from 8 to 15 December in Trivandrum.

The annual International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) will be hosting a two-day workshop aimed at woman filmmakers and technicians called Empowerment of Women in Cinema Workshop. 

The workshop will see the participation of 20 women who would be put through aspects like funding opportunities, film festival roadmaps, and film packaging and get a chance to attend master classes by industry veterans.

Festival Director and Chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy Kamal said, “IFFK has always been geared towards providing a platform to filmmakers. We are happy that this year aspiring women filmmakers and technicians get an added focus.”

IFFK has tied up with Basil Content Media for the initiative. Bina Paul, artistic director of IFFK and vice-chairperson, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, said, “The aim of this initiative is to provide informational resources to woman filmmaking talent that may help them in their filmmaking journeys. We are happy to be working with the team at Basil Content Media with Uma Da Cunha.” 

Vivek Kajaria, founder of Basil Content Media, said, “Basil Content Media was created to help filmmakers and festivals and we are honoured to be working with the team of IFFK in what we both consider a much-needed and important step towards ensuring participation of many more women filmmakers.”

Kajaria is also producer of the acclaimed Marathi film Fandry (2013). It was the directorial debut of Nagraj Popatrao Manjule of Sairat (2016) fame. 

The 22nd edition of IFFK will be held at Thiruvananthapuram from 8 to 15 December.
