First-time director Suresh Triveni’s Tumhari Sulu did not have a great opening on Friday as it made only Rs2.65 crore. However, the film's earnings recorded a good jump in next two days of the weekend. Positive word-of-mouth and good reviews seem to have worked for the film.
The film, starring Vidya Balan and Manav Kaul, made Rs4.25 crore on Saturday and recorded a higher collection of Rs5 crore on Sunday. This takes the grand total of Tumhari Sulu so far to Rs11.90 crore.
Tumhari Sulu has reportedly been made at a cost of Rs12 crore. As the film has almost reached that number, a lot rests on its box-office performance in the first week, starting today.
If the film does well, Tumhari Sulu will be Vidya’s first movie after Kahaani (2012) to not fail at the box office. The actress has had a series of non-performing films since then.
On the other hand, Ittefaq, starring Akshaye Khanna, Sonakshi Sinha and Sidharth Malhotra, earned Rs60 lakh in its third weekend. The Abhay Chopra-directed film has so far made close to Rs27 crore at the box office.
