Neat lyrics, fine music, Jyoti Nooran’s Sufi voice, and the mesmerizing visuals of Kapil Sharma courting Ishita Dutt make the Firangi track a soulful number.

While the Hindi film industry is increasingly dealing with subjects based in the country's heartland, a lot of them still rely on the contemporary style for their music. Philllauri (2017) showed a glimpse of the simple, village romance as it was partly set in the pre-indpendence era and now Kapil Sharma’s Firangi, which is entirely set in the pre-independence period, has struck similar chords.
The first song to be released from the film, which is also the title song, 'Oye Firangi' was more an introductory, soft-pop track. The second song, released today, is a romantic melody 'Sajna Sohne De', that leaves you mesmerized with the innocence of Manga (Kapil Sharma) and the beauty of Sargi (Ishita Dutt).
Though penned in Punjabi, Dr Devendra Kafir’s sweet, poetic lyrics are well supported by captivating visuals. Set in times where courtship was a taboo, the uneasiness and fear in the couple, is reflected in the demeanour of both Manga and Sargi.
Sharma seems to have really gotten into the skin of his village simpleton character. He does not say a word throughout the song, but his eyes say it all. The title of the song says 'My Beloved Is Like Gold', and Sargi glitters in her simplicity and innocence. You may not understand the Punjabi lyrics, but the visuals will simply melt your heart.
Sufi singer Jyoti Nooran (from the Nooran sisters) has a peculiar and powerful voice that elevates the track. She is able to emote the feeling of Manga through her voice. The songs starts with a breath taking soft verse that keeps you hooked until the end.
Music director Jatinder Shah has composed a riveting tune. The song wavers a bit with the sudden but brief intervention of another female singer (name not disclosed). Although, this breaks the rhythm, the song soon gets back on track on Nooran's shoulders.
With its impressive trailer and the rooted first two songs, Firangi has thus far hit the right notes.
Produced by Kapil Sharma himself, Firangi is set to be released on 24 November.
