While the image of the International Film Festival of India in Goa took a beating after some jury members, including the chairman, quit, the organisers got a shot in the arm on Saturday when it was announced that Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Sridevi will be among the stars to grace the occasion.
Shah Rukh Khan is set to grace the opening ceremony on 20 November, when the festival is kicked off with Iranian director Majid Majidi’s film Beyond The Clouds.
Salman Khan will grace the closing ceremony on 28 November when the festival culminates with the Indo-Argentinian film Thinking Of Him, on Rabindranath Tagore.
Veteran actress Sridevi will inaugurate the Indian Panaroma section at IFFI on 21 November.
We had reported earlier that Amitabh Bachchan would be given the ‘personality of the year’ award at the festival.
This year IFFI will present 195 films from over 82 countries. There will be 10 world premieres, 10 Asian and International premieres, and over 64 Indian premieres.
The 2017 edition of the festival will also host a Mixed Reality sidebar featuring virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) activities in addition to a series of masterclasses and panel discussions featuring the who’s who of the entertainment industry, including filmmakers Atom Egoyan, Shekhar Kapur, Nitesh Tiwari and Farah Khan, as well as Oscar-winning sound designer Craig Mann.
This year the festival will also present films from a record number of woman filmmakers (over 30) in addition to a carefully curated section of restored classics from across the globe, which includes the recently completed restoration of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis (1927) and Andrei Tarkovsky’s Sacrifice (1986).
