With barely a few days left, the schedule of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2017 is out. The festival, which saw entries from over 100 countries, will see its Indian Panorama section open with director Vinod Kapri's Pihu.
The trailer of the film was released today, captures the looming threat of an innocent accident. The one-minute video begins with the sight of an adorable child, presumably Pihu, clearing out the refrigerator. The reason soon becomes clear as she tries to fit herself into its vegetable compartment. The quiet house, and the scattered playthings around suggest that Pihu is making the most of her parents' nap time.
While the sight itself is quite cute and 'aww' inspiring, the slow rise in the background score of rattling bottles from the refrigerator, come as a warning that it is not so. Little Pihu has locked herself in the refrigerator and cannot get out.
The description of Pihu on the IFFI 2017 website suggests the film is an 'edge of the seat thriller', and the trailer certainly promises it.
Kapri's feature film transforms an ordinary home into a place of horror by showing how daily use objects can turn into a threat to innocent children.
Pihu replaced Ravi Jadhav's Nude as the opening film of the Indian Panorama section at the festival. Nude was recused from the lineup by the I&B ministry recently, causing a great deal of controversy.
The 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2017 opens on 20 November and will conclude on 28 November.
