Vikrant Massey, Shweta Tripathi to star in Anurag Kashyap's sci-fi film Cargo

After their tryst with realism [Udaan (2010), Ugly (2014), Queen (2014), Udta Punjab (2016)], Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane seem to be turning their attention to the sci-fi genre. They are ready to back a sci-fi film, titled Cargo, that will have Vikrant Massey and Shweta Tripathi in the lead. 

Directed by Arati Kadav, the film will take place in a spaceship orbiting earth. This will be Kadav's directorial debut as a feature film maker. She had previously directed another short sci-fi film, Time Machine. 

The film is jointly produced by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, and Shlok Sharma, and is expected to go on the floors in January 2018. 

Speaking about the film, Tripathi said, "It’s great to work with people you trust and who trust you. Anurag Kashyap has been a mentor to so many of us. Him and Vikram supporting our endeavors means so much to us. SCI-Fi is a genre we have hardly explored and I am so excited to be a part of Cargo." 

The actress also added, "The biggest compliment for me which I love is when somebody writes a part for me keeping me in mind. So when Aarti wrote the film, in fact, the character was named Shweta, (but) now we are changing the name. So then we know there is certain trust and faith they are having it in you, that makes me very happy because I am extremely choosy about the kind of work I am doing and it's not easy at all because there are so many frustrating days where you just waiting for things to happen [sic]. So when films like these happen you feel like (what) you are doing is right." 

Tripathi and Massey are currently shooting together for the Amazon Prime series, Mirzapur. The series also features Fukrey Returns star, Ali Fazal.

Both Massey and Tripathi have been appreciated by the critics for their performance in Haraamkhor (2017) and A Death In the Gunj (2017), respectively, this year. Tripathi was also part of Shlok Sharma's Zoo, which premiered at the Mumbai Film festival 2017.
