The reports of Sanjay Dutt opting out of Indra Kumar’s Total Dhamaal arrived as quite a surprise. Sources close to the actor have hinted that the actor wasn’t comfortable to be part of an adult comedy. Dutt was a key part of the earlier films in the Dhamaal franchise – Dhamaal (2007) and Double Dhamaal (2011).

However, director Indra Kumar has denied any credibility to the stories that Total Dhamaal is laden with 'adult content'. Kumar has rejected stories of Dutt walking out because the film had adult content, saying that the actor had parted ways from the team amicably. The director even dismissed rumours of Riteish Deshmukh opting out of the film.

In a statement released by Indra Kumar, the director said, "While the news is true that we have parted amicably with Sanju (Dutt) for the film, I further want to clarify that Riteish is very much a part of the superhit  franchise, and there is absolutely no adult content in Total Dhamaal. Total Dhamaal is an out and out  family entertainer, just like Dhamaal and Double Dhamaal.”

Kumar had directed and co-produced the earlier Dhamaal films. Along with Dutt, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Jaaved Jaaferi and Ashish Chaudhary had played the protagonists in the earlier films. Except for Dutt, the rest of the team is tipped to return in Total Dhamaal.
