Naxalities slam celebrities, urge them to back their revolutionary movement.

Mumbai - 29 May 2017 17:20 IST
In a first, the Naxalites of Chhattisgarh have slammed actor Akshay Kumar and badminton player Saina Nehwal for offering financial aid to the families of the Sukma attack martyrs. Akshay had offered Rs9 lakh each to the families of the martyrs, while Nehwal had pledged Rs50,000. The Naxals issued a press note asking the celebrities to condemn the alleged oppression by Indian security forces.
“These people (presumably CRPF jawans) can’t be hailed as patriots, but killers of the poor. The army has deployed their personnel in Bastar to oppress the poor. We highly condemn the financial aid by actor Akshay Kumar and badminton player Saina Nehwal to the families of the CRPF jawans. We appeal to eminent celebrities to back the revolutionaries, and condemn the police oppression and human rights violation,” the Naxals said in their statement.
On 12 March 2017, the Naxals had attacked a CRPF post in Sukma, Chhattisgarh and killed 12 Indian soldiers.
Over the last year or so, Akshay has been pretty vocal in his support for the Indian Army jawans and their sacrifices. Akshay had offered financial help to kin of the Uri terror attack martyrs in Kashmir. Kumar had even launched a website to provide financial aid to the families of the martyrs.
The Naxalities are members of the armed Communist Party of India (Maoist) who have been battling the Indian state in many tribal regions of West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and parts of Telangana.
