Veteran actor and member of parliament (MP) Paresh Rawal was slammed on social media yesterday after his comments over author Arundhati Roy. While senior members from the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) have refrained from speaking over the issue, a couple of members from the party have given contrasting views over the same.

Shaina NC, the spokesperson of the BJP, believes that Rawal shouldn’t have targeted a woman. “Paresh Rawal is entitled to his opinion when it comes to stone pelters and that could be an emotion echoed by many people. However, to drag a woman into this controversy or for that matter, disrespect any woman irrespective of her ideology needs to be think over again,” she said while talking to an agency.

S Prakash, another leader from the party, however, doesn’t find the actor’s remarks offensive. He said, “Paresh Rawal is known for making sarcastic remarks on Twitter. It should not be taken seriously every time. Look at on the lighter side of it and don’t over blow it.”

The Hera Pheri actor raised a lot of eyebrows yesterday when he tweeted, “Instead of tying stone pelter on the army jeep tie Arundhati Roy !” He was reacting to Roy’s recent comments which said, “India cannot achieve its objective in the occupied valley even if its army deployment raises from seven lakh to 70 lakh.”

This is not all though. Even last week, Rawal had severely attacked Roy on the social media site. He had said, “70 lakh Indian army can't defeat azadi gang of Kashmir - Arundhati Roy .Her birth certi in fact is a regret letter from maternity ward .”
