I knew what was happening with Kulbhushan Jadhav, says Sushant Singh Rajput

Earlier in the month, the trailer launch of director Dinesh Vijan’s Raabta turned out to be a controversial affair for the film’s lead actor, Sushant Singh Rajput. The actor was asked his opinion on the Kulbhushan Jadhav episode, the Indian national sentenced to death in Pakistan on charges of spying and terrorism. Rajput refused to answer. As the journalist insisted on getting an answer from him, there was an angry argument between both.

Now, the M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story actor has openly spoken up about the incident and justified his act. During a media interaction on Raabta, the actor said, “People would understand that a journalist is asking an actor about his opinion on something. The actor is saying, 'excuse me, I don’t have an opinion because I am not well informed'.”

Rajput also added that he had knowledge about the incident related to Jadhav and he could have given a patriotic opinion. “It is very easy for me to go with the popular opinion. I know what was happening with him (Jadhav). I could have said, 'oh I am patriotic and this is wrong'. You would have said, ‘Wow, Sushant you are so good.’ It’s very easy for me to do that. (But) I am exposing myself to you and being extremely honest and saying, 'you know what? I am not well informed. But I will get my facts correct and next time when I meet you, I will tell you about my opinion'. So, next time when I give my opinion to you about something else, you would respect it thinking that I know the facts and that’s why I have an opinion. I just said that.” he said.

Rajput believes that anyone who saw the video of the incident would know who was right, "No matter how big a fight you think it is, everybody who has seen it would understand how rational who was," he added.

Last week, a stay on Jadhav’s death sentence was enforced by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Just today, Pakistan has given an assurance that Jadhav is safe.
