In a recent interview, Ram Gopal Varma had disclosed how people are interested in the dark side of a human being. We're not sure about other people but, reel or real, Varma certainly has a fascination for dark characters. The controversial filmmaker is set to make a film on Nathuram Godse, the man who killed Mahatma Gandhi.

I consider Sarkar a realistic Superman or a James Bond: Ram Gopal Varma

The filmmaker confirmed the news while speaking to NavbharatTimes.com news website.

Nathuram Godse

"In today's world, one believe in the principles of Mahatama Gandhi, but there are a whole lot of people who think like Hitler. It’s not Hitler or Gandhi, but I'm working on making a film on the life of Nathuram Godse. The reason why I want to make such a film is that I'm keen to know why Godse killed a national hero and popular leader. Why did he kill Gandhi? How did this thought creep into his mind? I have started writing the script,” Varma said.

Varma's Sarkar 3 is set to be released this Friday (12 May). The filmmaker is no stranger to making films on controversial characters. Last year, Varma had made a film on notorious bandit Veerappan.

Nathuram Vinayak Godse was an advocate of Hindu nationalism who assassinated Gandhi, shooting him in the chest three times at point blank range in New Delhi on 30 January 1948. Godse, from Pune, Maharashtra, thought Gandhi favoured the political demands of India's Muslims during the Partition of India.
