The sequel to one of Dhanush's popular movies, Vellaiilla Pattathaari, is to release on 28 July this year. Actor Dhanush took to Twitter to make the announcement.
The date carries a special connection to Dhanush, as it is his birthday.
The film, titled VIP2 (Vellaiilla Pattadhari 2), has been gaining a buzz for various reasons. The sequel has been directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth. In addition, the film features Hindi actress Kajol playing one of the lead characters in the film. It marks Kajol's return to Tamil cinema after 20 years, since last appearing alongside Prabhudeva in Minsara Kanavu (1997).
In fact, sources say that Dhanush will play an underdog architect taking on Kajol's character in the film. Another factor in advantage of the film is that the story and dialogues for the film have been penned by Dhanush himself. The actor recently turned director with Power Paandi (2017) to some acclaim.
Amala Paul plays the female lead in VIP2. The film has been shot by cinematographer Jomon T John, who also shot the Malayalam superhit, Charlie (2015). Sean Roldan has scored the music for the film.
Interestingly, Vellaiilla Pattadhari (2014), which went on to become a superhit, was directed by one of Dhanush's trusted cinematographers, Velraj. Music for VIP was scored by Anirudh. However, neither of them are a part of the sequel.
Velaiilla Pattadhari is produced by V Creations, and will release in theatres on 28 July.
