Anushka Sharma turns ‘Naughty Billo’ for Diljit Dosanjh in Phillauri

This new dance song is all kinds of Punjabi - vibrant and upbeat.

The song ‘Naughty Billo’ from debutant director Anshai Lal’s Phillauri, which has just been released, is the quintessential Punjabi dance number.

Phillauri is a light-hearted entertainer with a dose of yesteryear romance and a twist - its the story of a ghost! The recently released song from the film, ‘Sahiba’, is a soulful romantic song. And now Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh get a hip dance number in the form of Naughty Billo.

The song starts in an earthy and period setting with Anushka and Diljit wearing traditional Punjabi clothes. But all of a sudden, you are transported from the retro world to what could be a club of today’s era. Like the previous song, Anushka and Diljit’s positive chemistry is present here too. A special mention to their vibrant outfits in the song!

Since its a Punjabi dance number, composer Shashwat Sachdev uses the typical drum sounds. But he has mixes them well with techno beats. What results is a good fusion track. Singers Nakash Aziz, Shilpi Paul and Diljit himself have complemented each other well, even as Anushka pitches in with some rap.

However, the obvious promotion of a soft drink brand feels forced and should have been avoided. Mehreen Pirzada and Suraj Sharma make brief appearances through the song.

This song feels like an end credit track and has obviously been shot mainly for promotional purposes. It works in the most obvious way and we won't be surprised if its the next dance floor hit. We wonder it has the staying power though.

Phillauri is the second production venture from Anushka after NH 10 (2016). The film is all set to release on 24 March.
