The father of the actor Soori, one of Tamil cinema's leading comedians, died on Monday after a long illness.

Actor Soori was bereaved after his father R Muthusamy passed away on Monday night. Muthusamy was 75.
Soori's father died at 10:15 pm in Rasakoor in Thamaraipatti, Madurai district. Sources said he had been unwell for some time. The funeral took place at 4 pm today.
Soori shot to fame as one of the amateur players in Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu (2009). The actor is currently working on at least six films. Reports indicate that he has cancelled all his appointments and headed back home.
On learning of Soori's father's death, the team of Udhayanidhi Stalin's upcoming film, Saravanan Irruka Bayamen, chose to cancel its audio and trailer launch function scheduled for this evening.
