He’s been keeping a low profile on the professional front, but Shirish Kunder has an active presence on social media. The actor had courted controversy yesterday when he slammed newly-elected Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath in his tweet. The filmmaker was forced to apologise after the followers of Adityanath filed a FIR against him.
Kunder posted the following tweet apologising to Adityanath and anyone who felt offended.
I unconditionally apologise. I never meant to hurt anyones feelings or sentiment.

Kunder, who is married to filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan, had riled Adityanath’s supporters when he called him a goon and questioned his appointment as the CM of Uttar Pradesh.
‘Go by the logic of making a goon as CM so that he behaves, Dawood can be CBI director. And Mallya – RBO governor’
‘Hoping a goon will stop rioting once he’s allowed to rule is like expecting a rapist to stop raping once he’s allowed to rape.’
Kunder had posted the above controversial tweets and later deleted them.
Incensed supporters of the UP chief minister had then filed a FIR against Kunder at the Hazratganj police station. It remains to be seen whether Adityanath’s supporters will withdraw their complaint.
Kunder hasn't made a full-length feature film since Joker (2012). The filmmaker last made a short film Kriti (2016) which was involved in a plagiarism row.
