It has been 17 years since Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan came together in a film (Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, 2000). Now, reports have emerged that the actress has signed on to work with her Taal co-star in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Fanney Khan.
The film, co-produced by Prernaa Arora and Arjun N Kapoor, is expected to be shot entirely in Mumbai. Aroraa was quoted by Mumbai Mirror as saying, "We go on the floors by the year-end. It is a happy, slice-of-life film. We approached Aishwarya for the part and are glad she agreed to come on-board." Kapoor is expected to play the titular role of Fanney Khan in the film. However, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is reportedly not paired opposite the actor in the musical comedy.
Last year, speculations were rife that Priyanka Chopra was likely to be cast in the film. However, Aishwarya seems to have pipped the younger actress to the role.
Word is that Aishwarya will be playing the role of a star singer, who gets kidnapped by Kapoor in his attempt to further the career of his daughter, a struggling singer.
Aishwarya was last seen in the Karan Johar ensemble drama, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2017). At the recent Cannes Film Festival, the actress was quoted as saying, "I took a break for the past five months because of personal reasons. I'm glad I did. It meant a lot for me, personally, so I didn't have any professional meetings. I started last week and I have liked two subjects already."
The film will be directed by Atul Manjrekar, a long time associate of Mehra.
