From Kulkarni Chaukatla Deshpande to Ventilator: Goa Marathi Film Festival kicks off

The 10th edition of the Goa Marathi Film Festival was kicked off on Friday, 16 June. It was inaugurated at the hands of Goa chief minister, Manohar Parrikar. It was attended by Shiv Sena’s MP (Member of Parliament) Sanjay Raut and actress Divya Dutta. 

The festival will see well-known Marathi actress Sai Tamhankar being presented with the Face Of The Year Award. Veteran Marathi and Hindi film actor Sachin Pilgaonkar will be bestowed with Krutadnyata Award for his contribution towards cinema. He started working as a child artiste in the 1960s and has over 100 films to his credit. 

In his inaugural speech, Parrikar said that he will make sure Marathi films get more exposure in Goa. “We will ask theatres in Goa to reserve slots for regional cinema. We need to support our own,” he said. 

Gajendra Ahire’s Kulkarni Chaukatla Deshpande, which is yet to release, was the opening film. Films like Sanchar, which stars Nagesh Bhosle, and Girish Joshi’s Take Care. Good Night would also be premiered at the festival. 

It will also screen National Award-winning films like Kaasav, Ventilator and Dashakriya. Other films to be shown include, Dr Rakhmabai, Sachin: A Billion Dreams, Take Care. Good Night, Cycle, FU: Friendship Unlimited, Sanchaar, Bhow, Nadi Vahate, Pimpal, Chi Va Chi Sau Ka and Conditions Apply. 

The festival will also provide a platform for short Marathi films. Some of the films to be screened under this section are, Aba Aiktay Na, Saavat, Chaukat, and Bubblehead. The information was provided by the festival director Sanjay Shetye.
