Swapnil Joshi’s next Marathi film, Bhikari revolves around the concept of a millionaire becoming a beggar. This is revealed in the first trailer of the film, which is directed by choreographer-turned-filmmaker Ganesh Acharya.

The trailer starts off with Joshi’s character enjoying every bit of his wealth. We see him travelling around in the US. He also has his own private jet. But his mother meets with an accident. His life turns upside down all of a sudden as his mother, who he deeply loves, is now battling for her life. Circumstances force Joshi to become a beggar to ensure that his mother gets well.

A person becoming a beggar for his mother’s betterment is a weird idea. We really hope there is a convincing reason behind it in the movie and not some random superstition. The issue with the trailer is that it reveals a bit too much. The kidnapping angle featuring actor Milind Shinde should have been skipped.

This is Joshi’s second movie of the year after Swapna Waghmare Joshi’s Fugay, which also starred Subodh Bhave. Bhikari is Acharya’s Marathi film debut as a director. He has so far directed two Hindi films, Swami (2007) and Money Hai Toh Honey Hai (2008).

Bhikari will be released on 4 August. It will clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Harry Met Sejal.
