The Padmavati actor seems to be tapping into his character of Alauddin Khilji as he made an appearance at the annual police show, Umang, in a bedouin attire.

There are actors, and there are actors. Ranveer Singh belongs to the latter category. His wacky sense of fashion borders on the eccentric, but there is no questioning his dedication to the craft. The actor's latest appearance at the Umang Awards offers a tantalising glimpse into his character of Alauddin Khilji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati.
Arriving at the Mumbai Police's annual show, Umang, the actor was clad in a bedouin attire that was right out of David Lean's Lawrence of Arabia. With kohl lined eyes and a sharp beard to add to his features, Singh looked every bit the ambitious Alauddin Khilji that Bhansali wants for his Padmavati. Designed by Singh regulars, Shantanu and Nikhil, the outfit definitely stood out from the rest of the celebrities who graced the event.
This is not the first time Singh has borrowed to wear apparel from his character's wardrobe. During the promotions of Bajirao Mastani, the actor had raised a few eyebrows with his dashing appearance in a man skirt. That he can carry it off has been the only reason this eccentricity has been accepted. He even carried the skirt fashion with panache at the GQ awards, which incidentally saw him win the Actor of the Year. Designer Nitasha Gaurav, who styled Singh during the film, often opted to design him in androgynous outfits, much to the delight of fans.
With the police certainly not minding his appearance at the Umang police show, the actor seems to have passed at least one stern test. Now, for the fashion police to pass judgement.
