Dangal actor Zaira Wasim, who courted controversy when she met Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, has found herself in the eye of a storm again when she objected to Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Goel's tweet about a painting.
In the tweet, Goel, Union minister of youth affairs and sports, shared a picture of a painting of a girl in a burkha and one in a cage. He wrote that the painting told a story similar to that of Wasim's in which a girl had broken the shackles. 'More power to our daughters,' he added in the tweet.
The tweet was later deleted.
However, the Dangal actor wasn’t amused and she expressed her views through a series of tweets.
Wasim humbly requested the minister to not compare her to such a "discourteous depiction".
The young actor from Kashmir then reminded the minister how women in hijab were beautiful and free.
And lastly, she saw absolutely no comparison in the painting to her story.
Taken aback by the response, Goel stated, "You have interpreted wrong. I appreciated your work and stated that evil and patriarchal notions must be discouraged." The minister has since deleted this tweet. He expressed how the girl may have misunderstood his interpretation and wished her all the best.
I'm afraid you still haven't understood. But I wish you all the very best and appreciate your work. Hope to meet & interact too. https://t.co/h2RK3K3zIB— Vijay Goel (@VijayGoelBJP) January 20, 2017
Wasim had played the character of a young Geeta Phogat in Aamir Khan-starrer Dangal.
