Director Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal continues to stun at the box-office. After finishing the first week at Rs192.50 crore, the film has now gone on to earn as much as Rs70.25 crore in the second weekend. This takes its second week total to a phenomenal Rs262.50 crore.
The film earned Rs18 crore, Rs22 crore and Rs30.25 crore on Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively.
With the second weekend figures out, the film, based on wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat’s story, now has a clear chance of overtaking Salman Khan’s Sultan, which made Rs300 crore lifetime business.
But Dangal also has some hope of becoming the highest grossing film ever. The two films that top the list are Aamir’s own Rajkumar Hirani directed PK (2014) and Kabir Khan’s Salman starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), which earned Rs337 crore and Rs315 crore respectively.
Whether or not the film manages to stun us further by coming close to the second or first position will be known after its performance today. As it enters the second week today, its collections are expected to fall.
The film also stars Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, who play Mahavir’s daughters.
