Hindi film producer Karim Morani of Cineyug Films has been accused of rape by a woman, who is a friend of his 28-year-old daughter Zoa. The girl filed the complaint at Hayathnagar police of Rachakonda commissionerate in Hyderabad alleging that he had raped her several times, including twice at a prominent film studio in the city, between September and October 2015.

Karim, who has successfully produced films likes Chennai Express (2013), Dilwale (2015), Raja Hindustan (1995), has been charged under Sections 376 (rape), 342 (wrongful restraint), 417 (cheating), 506 (criminal intimidation), 493 (co-habitation caused by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage) and 354-C (voyeurism) of the Indian Penal Code.

A spokesperson for Karim rubbished the charge.

"The complaint is absolutely false and bogus with the sole intention of tarnishing Mr Morani's reputation and image. Mr Morani will be taking appropriate steps in accordance with law to demonstrate that [the] complaint is malafide. He is truthful and innocent and has full faith in the judiciary and is ready and willing to co-operate with the authorities to the fullest extent,” Karim's spokesperson issued a statement in defence of the producer.

Fearing Karim could influence the probe, the alleged victim, filed the complaint in Hyderabad. The girl has accused Karim of sexually exploiting her on the false pretext of marriage.

"A complaint was filed  on the 10th of this month by Mumbai based on a woman accusing Mr Morani of raping her. The series of alleged offences took place in 2015. In her complaint, the accused alleged that the offence also took place in Hyderabad and that's why we are investigating the matter. The case will not be transferred to Mumbai. We  need to gather concrete evidence first, before taking the next step (i.e FIR)," a senior police inspector from Hayathnagar police station told Cinestaan.com

Karim is no stranger to controversies, having spent time in jail in connection with the 2G scam. A slew of criminal conspiracy charges were filed against him then.
