The actor and director have previously worked together in Kaminey and Haider.

Ever since he took up Rangoon, Shahid Kapoor's equation with his co-star Kangana Ranaut has made been the subject of gossip columns. In a film that stars Kangana Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan, it is natural that all attention will be on his co-actors. While most tales of discord between Kapoor and Ranaut are speculative and have arisen out of their comments saying it is "strictly professional", the actor has for the first time hinted that he perhaps felt a tad neglected in the Vishal Bhardwaj-directed film.
Speaking to Indian Express newspaper, Kapoor was asked about his equation with Bhardwaj. Rangoon is Kapoor’s third film with the director.
Talking about his equation with Bhardwaj, Kapoor said, “While doing Kaminey (2009), we had a very professional equation. During Haider (2014), we came very close. It was a passion project for him. We both did the film free of cost, almost. He wanted to make the film and I wanted to work with him. He told me it was a movie about Kashmir, based on Hamlet. When I went through it, I realised it is something very powerful. Rangoon was very different. It was on a certain scale and we had too many things to take care of. Though I was a part of the film in a professional capacity, I missed getting attention from him. I was used to that."
Ranaut has been hogging the limelight ever since the film was announced. Reports of her being the highest paid actress started doing the rounds once she signed Rangoon, and the actress also said that she was the "third hero" of the film. Ranaut also spent a lot of time with Bhardwaj, working on her role.
Unlike Haider, Kapoor wasn't the centre of attention here. While the commercial responsibility of Haider lay completely on Kapoor's shoulders, Rangoon will sell a lot more because of Ranaut's current market standing.
Well, whatever the circumstances while filming, the trailer still promises a top-rated performance from Kapoor.
Rangoon is set to be released on 24 February.
