The controversy over the naming of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor's son Taimur refuses to die. And this time, it's landed a YouTuber in trouble.
YouTuber Ssumier Pasricha, who is popularly known by his character name Pammi Aunty, was forced to delete a video on Taimur Ali Khan after he and his manager allegedly received calls from unknown people demanding the video to be removed.
In his video, Pasricha, (Pammi Aunty) had hit out at the trolls who mocked the star couple for naming their son after the 12-century Turco-Mungol dictator Timur.
As per a report in news supplement Bombay Times, the video has Pammi Aunty say that a name does not reflect a person’s character. For example, she says, a child named after the gods could also grow up to be a hardened criminal.
Certain viewers were not amused and they allegedly started making threat calls to Pasricha's manager demanding the video be pulled down as it hurt their religious sentiments.
"It was a sarcastic take on how people take names so seriously. Though the video was posted in December, my manager started getting calls a few weeks ago. Some people, who claimed to be members of a right-wing organisation and followers of a controversial Godman, threatened him with dire consequences if I didn't apologise and pull down the video. I took it easy for some time, but my manager was so harassed that he stopped taking business calls. So, I pulled it down a week ago" Pasricha told Bombay Times.
The actor also underlined how he never meant to offend anyone.
"The video wasn't created with an intention to offend anyone; I wasn't targeting anybody. It's their problem if they took it personally. People should take things lightly and let others be," he said.
Isn't he setting a wrong example by succumbing to such pressure? "I wouldn't have done it, but I didn't want my manager or his work to suffer," added the actor.
Meanwhile, a report in the Delhi Times newspaper had Saif Ali Khan stating that Kareena didn’t like the name and the couple was contemplating on changing the name.
“Kareena was a little against it and she said, ‘People respect you for your opinion and you can’t’… So I said, yeah, but it’s not about people. I don’t want him to get unpopular. And I still might, maybe when he’s one or two, I might change his name in a while, it’s still sinking in, what to do,” Khan told Delhi Times.
In fact, Khan also revealed that he sat down with his PR personnel and drafted a note but dropped the idea, Khan said, “It was so pathetic that I cancelled the idea. Because it was really like, uhh, ‘I’m sorry’, and ‘I didn’t want to offend’ and ‘I’m an idiot’ (laughs), and you know, I’ve given in to pressure. It just sounded awful.”
