Sriram Raghavan has maintained a quiet profile since the release of his last hit, Badlapur (2015). The director was supposed to start work on his next thriller with Harshvardhan Kapoor but has stayed off the radar. Now, reports have emerged that he has signed on Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead for his next venture.

Initially, Sriram had approached his Badlapur star Varun Dhawan for the role, but Dhawan rejected it. Later, Kapoor also chose different projects, leaving the filmmaker out of choices. He has now signed on the Vicky Donor (2012) star, with sources suggesting that Tabu might be in the running for the female lead.

The Deccan Chronicle newspaper quoted a source as saying, "Sriram, who is very particular about the casting of his films, has roped in Tabu and Ayushmann for his next film. The film will have a thriller element in it, which happens to be his forte."

It is being speculated that the director is working on a thriller based on Vikas Swarup's book, The Accidental Apprentice. However, there has been no official statement from the production house as yet.

Sriram is expected to start work on the project in the next few months and the film is likely to be ready for theatrical release later this year.

Khurrana has just completed filming for Yash Raj's Meri Pyari Bindu opposite Parineeti Chopra. He has also signed on for Aanand L Rai's Shubh Mangal Savdhan, opposite Bhumi Pednekar.

Tabu, meanwhile, is expected to start work on Rohit Shetty's superhit franchise, Golmaal 4.
