All it takes is a great idea. But one can't foresee how long it will take for the idea to fructify. Vishal Bhardwaj's upcoming period romantic drama Rangoon has a touch of history to it. No, we are not referring to the storyline or its period setting. Bhardwaj had first conceived of this idea a decade ago whilst filming Omkara (2006).

Back then Bhardwaj had casually shared his Rangoon idea with his Omkara antagonist Saif Ali Khan. Little did the nawab of Pataudi know then that 11 years later, he would play one of the protagonists in the film. Bhardwaj took his time to work on the Rangoon script. The film was previously titled Julia. The final screenplay was written by Matthew Robbins, who previously collaborated with Bhardwaj for 7 Khoon Maaf (2011).

Saif Ali Khan plays the character of Rustom 'Rusi' Billimoria with Kangana Ranaut playing Julia and Shahid Kapoor essaying the role of Nawab Malik.

Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and distributed by Viacom 18 Motion Picture, Rangoon is set to be released on 24 February.
