Hindi cinema has seen some positive ray of hope in the form of the opening day box office collections of Fukrey Returns, the sequel to Fukrey (2013). The Mrigdeep Singh Lamba directed film has amassed an impressive Rs8 crore on its day of release yesterday.
Fukrey 2 has achieved one of the biggest opening day collections for a film with no popular stars. Starring Varun Sharma, Richa Chadha, Pulkit Samrat, Ali Fazal, Manjot Singh and Pankaj Tripathi, the film has scored the most in northern India due to its setting and subject.
In fact, the collections in East Punjab are higher than the superhit Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), and other big films of this year like Kaabil and Baadshaho.
With such a number on the first day, the film, which is sequel to 2013 film Fukrey, has a good chance of emerging a hit. But it still has to earn well on Saturday (today) and Sunday and pass the difficult weekday test that will follow. Fukrey 2 is reportedly made at a budget of around Rs27-30 crore. Hence, it is important for the film to continue its good run in the coming days.
Thankfully, Fukrey Returns has two full weeks at the box office before Salman Khan’s biggie Tiger Zinda Hai is released on 22 December.
