Debutant director Nachiket Samant’s Gachchi is a light-hearted drama revolving around a person’s suicide mission. From the trailer of the film, it seems the issue is not trivialised in an attempt to make it light-hearted.

Gachchi, which means terrace of a building, has the fresh pairing of Priya Bapat and Abhay Mahajan. A diabetic guy (Mahajan) is debt-ridden and has no means to repay his creditors. When he casually stares onto the terrace of a building, he is shocked to see a girl (Bapat) about to jump from it. He rushes to the terrace to save her. A strange bond develops between both the characters. But the girl is still determined to end her life.

The casting of Mahajan and Bapat seems perfect. Their respective impressive comic timing is something you cannot miss. But it seems the film also has thriller elements, as is seen in a few moments in the trailer.

Thankfully, we aren’t told anything about the back story of the girl and the reason why she wants to end her life. This is a rarity in today’s times when the makers reveal almost everything in the trailer, especially when it comes to Hindi films.

Gachchi will be released on 22 December. It will not only clash with Deva and Charandas Chor (both Marathi), but also with Salman Khan-starrer Tiger Zinda Hai.
