Nearly a year after its release, director Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal continues to receive accolades. The Aamir Khan-starrer is has now won the award for the Best Asian Film at the 7th Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards.

The news about the same was shared by veteran actress Shabana Azmi, who was one of the jury members, on Twitter. She shared a picture with Russell Crowe, the chairman of the jury and the Oscar-winning actor, and said that it was a unanimous decision by the jury.

The other Indian films nominated for the award were Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu-starrer Pink (2016) and the National Award winning Marathi film Kaasav: Turtle (2017).
Also starring Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Sakshi Tanwar and Zaira Wasim, Dangal was based on real-life wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat’s efforts to train his daughters to become champion wrestlers.

Dangal received high praise from audiences and critics alike. The film also went on to become the highest grossing Hindi film by earning Rs374 crore.
