18 years of struggle was more painful than training for Mukkabaaz: Vineet Kumar Singh

Mukkabaaz required him to undergo rigorous boxing training, which also brought along a spate of injuries.

After playing a host of supporting characters, Vineet Kumar Singh finally bagged a titular role in Anurag Kashyap’s Mukkabaaz. Any actor would love to play the lead in a film directed by the same guy who helmed the Gangs Of Wasseypur films. Much more so, if the opprotunity comes by after almost two decades of struggle. “I am seeing this day after 18 years,” as Singh said during a conversation with Cinestaan.com.

Singh was studying medicine when he decided to venture in to the film industry.

Mukkabaaz required him to undergo rigorous boxing training, which also brought along a spate of injuries. However, for Singh his days of struggle were much more painful. “The training provided by life was the most difficult. Boxing training was also tough but that’s okay. That is only physical pain. I have spent 17-18 years here. And the punches I have faced in the entire experience have shaken me more,” he added.

Having said that, the boxing training literally had him bleeding. “The punches were so fast that you just can’t react. Suddenly you realize some wetness on your body and wonder what it is. You see and realize it’s blood. This used to happen frequently,” Singh said.

But Kashyap’s words and condition kept him going. “Anurag sir had said, ‘Vineet, if you don’t become a boxer, I won’t make Mukkabaaz.’ This used to play in my head constantly,” he said, adding, “I felt that now everything is in my hands and I don’t want to miss out on this opportunity.”
