Director Ali Abbas Zafar’s Tiger Zinda Hai could not continue the magic it created on Sunday when it earned a mammoth Rs45.50 crore at the box office. But the film, starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, made an impressive earning yesterday all the same, amassing Rs36.50 crore, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
Usually Mondays don’t see such high numbers, but Christmas is not just another Monday. Tiger Zinda Hai has thus become the highest earner on a Monday this year. The record for Hindi cinema was earlier held by the dubbed version of Baahubali: The Conclusion. The SS Rajamouli film had also benefited from a holiday on its first Monday for International Labour Day.
A sequel to the 2012 blockbuster Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Tiger Zinda Hai was off to a flying start on Friday and Saturday as it made Rs34 crore and Rs35.25 crore, respectively. This was followed by the exceptional numbers on Sunday.
The film, which also stars newcomer Sajjad Delafrooz, has already crossed the Rs150 crore mark. Its grand total now stands at about Rs151.25 crore.
Expected to reach Rs200 crore in the first week itself, Tiger Zinda Hai is on its way to become the highest grosser of 2017. That position is currently held by Golmaal Again, which had a national box-office collection of Rs205 crore.
As per trade experts, Tiger Zinda Hai is the most expensive film to have been produced by Yash Raj Films, with film costing almost Rs150 crore. Hence, it has to continue its hold during this week and the next to be considered a box-office success. Today's earnings will determine the journey it will make in the days to come.
