Citizens of Kerala, think again if you are looking to buy a swanky SUV from a neighbouring Union territory to avoid paying the higher taxes in your home state. You can get into trouble with the law.

Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil, who played the parallel lead in Mahesh Narayan's Take Off (2017) and the ambitious business executive in the Tamil film Velaikkaran (2017), which was released last Friday and is running to packed houses, was arrested and released on bail after he allegedly avoided paying tax in Kerala by buying a swanky vehicle in the neighbouring Union territory of Puducherry, as reported by the Press Trust of India news agency.

Fahadh Faasil was interrogated by top officers at the Kerala crime branch following which he was arrested, but the actor was then released on a bond of Rs50,000 and two sureties.

According to the police, the actor used fake documents to register his car in Puducherry to evade the 20% tax in Kerala on luxury cars costing more than Rs20 lakh.

The actor is said to have admitted his guilt and agreed to pay the penalty. Actress Amala Paul, too, is reported to have committed a similar offence earlier.
